Sat. Dec 15, 2012

I got Lael's quilt finished. I am happy with how it looks. I did have issues with the batting poking through. I used Superior Threads Rainbows in the top and Sew Fine in the bobbin. I love the way Rainbows looks, but it is not the easiest thread to use!

Thanksgiving 2012

I have so much to be Thankful for..... My husband, girls and other family and  friends! I am so lucky to be living in such a wonderful place on this beautiful earth as St. George, Utah. I have no wish to live any where else. Dave worked today so we were unable to travel to be with family. We hope to go to visit my parents and friends in Moab after Christmas.
I have been quite busy with customer work and finishing my art quilts that will be shown at St. George Art Museum in January. I am not sure of the opening date, but will post it as soon as I know. It is going to be a wonderful show and I would hope that anyone who is able would attend. Robert's photos will be shown along with our interpretations in fabric. I feel these are the pieces are the best work I have done.
These are photos of my completed art quilts. Rob was very happy with them.

I haven't posted anything on my blog for a while. I have been busy with customer work and finishing my art quilts. The only thing I have left to do is to put hanging sleeves on them. Rob took photos of all of the PHFA groups quilts. I am honored to be part of this group. Our show at the St. George Museum is quickly approaching.
I have not gotten our Christmas Cards printed. I really haven't decided on an image. I am thinking about using one of the photos of my art quilts. But.... have not decided.
I want to wish all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday Nov 1.

It is already Nov 1! I can't believe the time is going by so fast. I finished a couple of my art quilts and am working on my third. These are going to be a show at the St. George Art Museum in January.....

Dave and I are heading to SLC tomorrow to go to Kelby Lange's wedding. I got the binding and label sewn on their quilt. Going to give them the black and white owl quilt. It is one I made last year. It has 4 applique owls in various stages of sleep and waking. It's cute. I hope they like it.

I got a lot done today.... cleaned up the leaves in the back... washed windows in my car ... finished quilting Cheryl's table runner. Got the bindings sewn on the second art quilt and the Lange's wedding quilt. Now... time to go to bed.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sunday Oct 28th, 2012

Had a very good day today...............finished Carol McIntosh's quilt... The photos don't really show the detail very well. But I am very pleased with how it turned out and I think Carol will be also. Anyway, I hope she is thrilled.
Next I will get the binding sewn on my 2nd art quilt I have made for the show we are having in  January at the St. George Art museum. I still need to do the hand sewing of the binding on the quilt we are going to take for the Lange wedding the end of this week.
Time to get to work...............

Tuesday Oct 23......

I finished a big 115 1/2 by 117 1/2 quilt for a customer. She chose square spiral. It should not have taken as long as it did. I had to iron the backing..... then her borders were quite wavy. I took out seams and took up the excess fabric, in 3 places. It turned out good. T think she will be happy. I will call her the end of the week and give her the price. She got a deal.. I shorted myself $37... because I figured the est. wrong. I used .0125 instead of .0150... I will give her the 1 1/4 price instead of the 1 1/2 cents per square inch because that is what I quoted her. She told me the wrong size... smaller than what it actually measured.  I will be more careful from now on!
Now I need to get the binding sewn on a quilt for we are giving for a wedding present. That is my next order of business.

Monday Oct 1

It's already October......!!!!! I sure wish I could slow time down. I did finish Meg's quilt (just two 108 x 108 pieces of fabric quilted with an over all panto). It is currently in the dryer.
I was looking through things for a note book I have put somewhere safe and came across a whole bunch of watercolor paintings I had put away. Lots I had totally forgotten about, some are even matted. I also found a bunch of 1/2 sheet watercolor paper. That makes me really happy.... I have been painting a bit lately and want to do more.
I did agree to fill in at Let's Quilt for a few days in Oct. I will see how I handle it, with everything else. If it really stresses me out, I won't do it again. I don't know why I worry so much, but I don't like making mistakes and when I am rushed I am apt to. I like my space here at home... painting, designing and quilting.
Wed is the first Landscape class for the year at Scrap Apple. I need to go in and see if anyone has signed up, get their phone numbers and see what they plan on doing, so I know what supplies bring.
I have 4 lap size quilts to get done for a customer and one table runner for another. I need to bet boarders on my quilt that we are making for the friendship group and get the bindings done on my landscape quilts. Then get started on the 3rd landscape quilt (for or PHFA show in January).
Time to get busy......

Finished Cheryl's small quilt..

Tuesday morning

Today is a beautiful day here in St. George, Utah. I am setting out by the pond in our back yard. Dave has cleaned his pool and the hot tub/spa. Drained and filled the hot tub and I have cleaned all the leaves from around the pond, in the pond and around all the cement surfaces. It has been a few days since I put anything on my blog. So I will catch up.
We had a pretty good quilt show this past week here in St. George. It was put on my Utah Quilt Guild. There were things that could have been better, but over all it was a pretty good show. Everyone that worked on it worked very hard. The judges were great and dotted every i and crossed every t. I have heard talk that the people that won were in the judging room. So far as I am aware, there were never anyone that had entered a quilt in their name ever in the room when their quilt was judged. There were those that had quilts entered that were working to check the quilts in. That was the fiber arts group I am a part of. No one else came to help. If being in the room with the quilts made a big difference, the quilt Janey and I entered would have won something....lol! Those that won deserved the ribbons. Whom every is spreading this roomer needs to be careful of what they are saying.
Congratulations to Teryl Loy for her double ribbon. Her quilt was beautiful. Judie and Larry W's quilt won a first place. I was the lucky one that quilted it. Karen Andres and Cathie Purdy, both members of the fiber arts group I belong to, won ribbons! There were a couple more that I quilted that won ribbons as well... Margaret Miller's and Linda Sidlow. There were winners, I can't remember their names. ............Everyone that won ribbons deserved to win......!!!! Congratulations to you all!
I had a pleasent thing happen (thanks to Dayzee for pushing me....again). Chrystal day owner of  'It's Sew Moab' purchased 6 each of my 'The Perfect Bag' pattern and 'Cactus Wall hanging". We will see how they go.
I did  demo at the school house at the quilt show on my 'Glad to Mark it Board'. I had positive feedback. Teryl said she would have the patterns in the booth. I did not see them. I need to set up some kind of site to sell them myself I guess. I am just not very good at marketing. The board give you a flat surface to mark your quilts once they are on the long arm. Tools for the long arm can be extremely expensive.... this tool is not. You can purchase the pattern for under $10 and it is not hard to make. It requires fabric, a board, a big magnet and velcro........I need to find an outlet to sell the finished product too.
I have an idea for a quilt pattern, that I think could very well be a book. I have it drawn on paper, but need to get it put in my EQ7 program. I am not the sharpest tool when it comes to computers. It is going to take some major work on my part.
I have a couple of small customer things to do and should be working on them. But it is so lovely outside... I don't want to go in.................
Time to get busy though.......it's almost noon.

Sunday

Dave and I had the most wonderful dinner and time with dear friends last evening... Thanks so much Cathie and Jim.
Today I spent the afternoon at Let's Quilt taking a class from Pam Clarke. She is such a fun teacher and great person! I had never colored with crayons on fabric before. We made a table runner size piece. We traced or drew flowers on three panels (I opted to trace), once done we quilted around the lines we had drawn, going over it 3 times. My back tracking was not that great, but the piece is OK. We quilted in the borders and sashing and then did tight back files behind the motif we drew. We removed the drawing lines and then colored and ironed the designs. I came home and finished coloring mine. I did it at the ironing board, heating  the design and then putting the crayon on. Doing it that way seemed to make the color much more intense. It has to be washed a few times. I hope mine stays pretty dark, but it probably won't. Pam's had a water color effect................ it was a fun class.
5 of my 'Glad to Mark It Board' pattern sold and Teryl asked me to bring in more today. I am going to be demonstrating the tool............ or explaining it. Since I need the long arm to be able to actually demo it I am going to take photos tomorrow and mount them on a display board. That should help me explain. I need to do the photos anyway.
I did a acrylic painting of the red bridge in Mingus park in Coos Bay oregon. I am very happy with it. I plan on doing it with fabric on a large canvas.
Well it is 10 and I am tired. I think I will go get a bath and then go to bed.

latest customer quilt finished

Finished Lail Lovell's quilt. I am happy with the outcome.... Hope she will be.
I am also trying to burn photos of our Oregon trip on to a CD... I is not working.  I will try again later.
