This is my latest landscape it is measures 48 x 56 inches. I finished quilting it on Sunday and blocked it.  I am happy with it how it turned out. However, the quilting of which there is a lot, did not change the look of the finished project. I was trying to bring in more light especially on the bridge. There is so much thread on the bridge I don't want to add more. I am thinking about adding a little paint to bring the the high lights, but am not sure. I am entering it in the Dixie Quilt Guild bi-annual show that will be held this weekend. We will see what the judges say.
I did this quilt in a different way than I normally do. Usually I start with a muslin piece of fabric, draw the design on it and then add fabric. First gluing  it and then sewing it down. This piece was done on a cadmium red background fabric.  I had watched a workshop video of Arts TV and on artist always started his paintings on a canvas that was cadmium red. I loved the way the paintings turned out. I decided to do my own acrylic of the scene from a photo I took while on a trip with my PHFA friends in Coos Bay Oregon.  I first painted my canvas red and then did the acrylic painting. There is something about the red in the background that give the painting a glow that can't be accomplished any other way. I decided I should try it with fabric... I started with a large piece of cadmium red background fabric. I let the red show through every once in a while... it actually was pretty hard to let a bit of red show... not to much... not to little.... The red underlay also effected the final colors of the fabric. I am very happy with the results. I have not tried the method with any other piece, but plan too.
Now I need to get my labels sewn on and get the piece ready to take to the Dixie Center tomorrow.

Wednesday evening March 20

Today was a pretty good day here in St. George. My studio is all cleaned.... I got the master bath cleaned and did a bit of grocery shopping. Back home, continued to work on my current landscape. I will have it ready to bind over the weekend and that will give me time enough before the quilt show, which is over Easter weekend. I can't believe how fast this month has gone by! The only thing good about time going by so fast is May will be here and I will get to see Megan! I haven't seen her since Christmas 2011!!!!!!! Sure miss her.
I will post photos of my re-organized studio when I get some taken.
Now...............back to working on my landscape.
Tomorrow I need to make some phone calls to friends that live out of this area!
I hope everyone has a great week.

Friday morning

Today is a cloudy, rainy day.  I am under the weather again. I am going to stay inside and rest for the weekend. Hopefully by Monday I will be feeling better, I wish people would stay home when they are sick. I did teach a class on Wed, but hopefully did not spread this, if it is contagious and not just my allergies.

I finished Darlene's quilt... it turned out pretty. I fought with myself about weather to do an over all or custom. I decided on custom and am glad that I did. She will pick it up later today.
