It is over cast and breezy here in St. George today. The temp is below 100, but it feels very warm outside.  We are expecting it to be windy this afternoon.
I finally got around to loading photos into my computer...... the brown zig zag quilt belongs to Cheryl  DeMerit. This could have been quilting a lot more had she decided she wanted custom. But for what the quilt is going to be used for I thought an edge to edge design was perfect for this one. She wanted a curvy design. Cheryl picked the pantograph she liked the best from the pantographs I have and that it what I did. The thread is Magnifico from Superior Threads on the top and Superiors Sew Fine in the bobbin. The batting is polydown. This was the very last of my 120" wide roll of polydown. I was very sad to use the last of it. I loved this batting. The never polydown is not a fluffy and nice as this roll was. I have replaced it with a 9 oz that is a Pellon brand (I think). I have not used it yet but will very soon.

At our last Painted Hills Fiber Artists meeting, Carroll Lee Stolz's grandson, Honor, did a demo on his painting technique using spray paint and found objects. This young artist is will start 7th grade in the fall (I think). He and his brother are football players and I hope he keeps up his pursuits of art.
I finished this large quilt for Lael Lovel last night. She hasn't piked it up yet. I am anxious to see her reaction. I like how it turned out. We used a black 70/30 Legacy from Pellon batting. The thread was Superior Thread's Magnifico and Glide on the top with Superiors Sew Fine in the bobbin.

I a currently working on a new wall hanging pattern. This will be my third published (self) pattern. They are currently being sold at It's Sew Moab.  I am behind on getting the pattern done. I have been doing one a year. But have just been to busy to get past the original drawing on this one. I purchased background material as well as some border fabric at Scrap Apple Quilts.  I am pleased with the outcome so far. I will publish some step-by-step photos as soon as I get the sample done. Also I am loading my Statue of Liberty quilt on my long arm. I must get it quilted. Time is getting away from me. I have been putting clients work in front of my own. I am going to have to sneak mine in every once in a while or I won't have things done by the date I need them.

Carroll Lee Stolz is currently getting an article ready to go on our PHFA web site. Emily King, Rosemary Hargrove's daughter, has set our web site up for us and hopefully we (meaning Carroll Lee...lol) will be able to 'take it from here'.  The site is www.paintedhillsfiberartists.com. Check it out. Hopefully we will have more current information about the group on the site.  We are so thankful to Emily for all the work she has put into our group.

I guess I should get back to my work. It will be time for my husband to be home before I know it. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

It has been a while since I posted anything on the blog. I have been in Moab enjoying family and friends for a week. I picked cherries, pitted cherries and helped my oldest daughter make jam.  I helped do some weeding in my daughter and niece's garden. Hoed weeds on my parents property. Drove my mom to visit family on the family farm located between Monticello, Utah and Dove Creek, Colo. on Cedar Point. Visited with a couple of friends. Delivered some of my patterns to the quilt shop here in Moab. It is such a cute shop. I had plans to get some painting done, but did not do that. There were just to many things to do.

My oldest daughter has been selling her pottery and necklaces and my bags at the farmers market on Thursday evenings here in Moab. She has sold about 1/2 her stock of pottery. She does very nice work.

I am getting ready to head back to St. George tomorrow. I hate to leave family here, but my husband is anxious to have me home and I am ready to get back to my quilting and my own space. I have 3 client quilts I need to get finished and am working on a new wall hanging pattern. I need to get the instructions written up and a sample made as well as printing the patterns and all the stuff that goes into that by the end of July.  I am not looking forward to the 5 hour drive though. I really don't like to drive. I am hoping for good weather.

June 2

It is June already! My how time flies.  I have been extremely busy since my last post. I finished an Edge to Edge quilt for Wanda B. I really like the pantograph she chose.

I just finished this custom quilt for Karen H. It is a Thimbleberry block of the month quilt. I am pleased with the final outcome and I thinks he will be too. I did cross hatching in the tan areas, feathers in the red/black borders. I treated each block differently, but tried to keep the over all design cohesive. The quilting does not show on the front very much.

I have 3 client quilts waiting and 5 of my own.  So much I want to do and so little time!

I belong to the Dixie Quilt Guild here in St. George and the speaker at our last meeting was Sherri McConnell. She did a trunk show for us. I really enjoyed her presentation. I purchased her latest book 'Fresh Family Traditions'. I would like to make a couple of the quilts she has in the book. Sherri talked about how she cuts up her scraps and put them in containers when she finishes each project. I, like most quilters, can't throw anything away. I have been stuffing scraps into small totes for years, trying to keep each color separate. I have these totes on a shelves all around two walls in my studio. I decided that I would start going through my scraps, cutting them into different sizes... 10 1/2 and 6 1/2 inch squares, 2 1/2 and  3 inch stripes. 3, 3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2 inch squares and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch rectangles. I really don't know how I got so much fabric in easy of the totes. I have been ironing the pieces as I remove them from the totes. I am not keeping anything smaller than 2 1/2 inch. The smaller scraps have been going into trash bags to give to a friend (and fellow quilter) to be used as stuffing for dog beds. I have 2 tall kitchen trash bags full of scraps for Janey and have only gone through 2 1/2 totes!

Well It has been a long day....... I think I will call it a night.
