June 2

It is June already! My how time flies.  I have been extremely busy since my last post. I finished an Edge to Edge quilt for Wanda B. I really like the pantograph she chose.

I just finished this custom quilt for Karen H. It is a Thimbleberry block of the month quilt. I am pleased with the final outcome and I thinks he will be too. I did cross hatching in the tan areas, feathers in the red/black borders. I treated each block differently, but tried to keep the over all design cohesive. The quilting does not show on the front very much.

I have 3 client quilts waiting and 5 of my own.  So much I want to do and so little time!

I belong to the Dixie Quilt Guild here in St. George and the speaker at our last meeting was Sherri McConnell. She did a trunk show for us. I really enjoyed her presentation. I purchased her latest book 'Fresh Family Traditions'. I would like to make a couple of the quilts she has in the book. Sherri talked about how she cuts up her scraps and put them in containers when she finishes each project. I, like most quilters, can't throw anything away. I have been stuffing scraps into small totes for years, trying to keep each color separate. I have these totes on a shelves all around two walls in my studio. I decided that I would start going through my scraps, cutting them into different sizes... 10 1/2 and 6 1/2 inch squares, 2 1/2 and  3 inch stripes. 3, 3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2 inch squares and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch rectangles. I really don't know how I got so much fabric in easy of the totes. I have been ironing the pieces as I remove them from the totes. I am not keeping anything smaller than 2 1/2 inch. The smaller scraps have been going into trash bags to give to a friend (and fellow quilter) to be used as stuffing for dog beds. I have 2 tall kitchen trash bags full of scraps for Janey and have only gone through 2 1/2 totes!

Well It has been a long day....... I think I will call it a night.
